An issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the ubiquitous internet hosting service, took down many of the world's most popular online games in the early hours of Monday morning. Fortnite, Roblox, and Nintendo all reported that their services were unavailable.

Other games affected included Clash Royale and Palworld. The Epic Games Store was also experiencing issues. Steam, PlayStation Network, and Xbox's online services did not appear to be affected.

AWS confirmed an "operational issue" at its US-EAST-1 datacenter, affecting global services. By 6 a.m. EDT, it said it was observing recovery across most affected services.

AWS is the world's largest cloud services provider, and the effects of the outage spread far beyond the world of gaming. Other sites and services experiencing disruption on Monday morning included Amazon itself, Reddit, Snapchat, Duolingo, and Ring doorbells.
