During a recent panel discussion at the Technical University of Berlin, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed his interest in establishing a Stargate-like AI program in Europe.
He stressed the necessity for European nations to create their own AI regulations, stating, 'We need help,' while reaffirming OpenAI's commitment to adhere to European rules.
As part of its strategy to enhance its presence in Europe, OpenAI announced plans to open a new office in Munich, Germany, following previous openings in Dublin and London in 2023, and with future offices planned in Paris and Brussels in 2024.
The Stargate initiative, originally launched by former U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure over the next five years, with backing from major companies including OpenAI, Softbank, and Oracle.
Altman is also scheduled to attend an AI summit in Paris on February 12, 2025, which will gather various European heads of state and government officials.
He argued that adopting AI technology is essential for Europe to maintain its global competitiveness.
